Captain’s Welcome 2021/2022
“Welcome to the website of Christ’s College Boat Club, founded in 1830 and still one of the most popular societies for members of Christ’s College 191 years later.
Your captains for the 2021/2022 academic year are Katy Hempson and Rich Turner, both of whom are entering their third year after two years with the club.
Perhaps surprisingly, this past year saw the largest novice intake Christ’s has had for a long time. Despite the pandemic limiting our time on the river at the start of the
academic year, we retained the majority of our novices going through into Easter term, when we were finally able to hold a full training program for them. We maintained fitness and engagement over lockdown periods through a successful online program including
circuit training, yoga and online socials, meaning that when we were able to row again, we were ready to hit the ground running (or rather, hit the water rowing!). The 2021 JER (May Bumps alternative) yielded some promising results, and we look forward to
seeing our crews continue to progress and achieve in the next academic year.
Learning to row while at Cambridge is a unique opportunity and one which we hope to offer to as many members of Christ’s as possible. We are intent on offering a fulfilling
rowing experience to novices and returning seniors alike, and we look to build upon the improvement of the club’s social calendar and training programme seen last year and to convert this momentum into racing success on the Cam.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any queries.”
