Captain of Boats and Men’s Captain
Herbie Lambden hl520@cam.ac.uk
I’m a third year Historian and Captain of Boats for 2020-21. This will be my third successive year with the club after learning to row here in my first year and LBCing and working as Publicity Officer in my second.
We are bound to face some obstacles throughout this year but Erin and I are keen to make the most of it, come what may. I am excited to meet our new novices and to continue developing our senior rowers, many of whom are continuing to row this year. The ongoing situation will force the club to rethink how we train, providing an opportunity to diversify our training programme and put more emphasis on cross-training (Christ’s College Cycling Club, anyone?).
I have every confidence that the club will continue to grow, as it did last year, and will continue to be a welcoming and collegial environment in which to exercise and socialise.
Women’s Captain
Erin Fitzsimmons-West ef408@cam.ac.uk
My name is Erin, a third year medical student, and I am women’s captain for this academic year. I have been part of CCBC since I joined Christ’s as a fresher in 2018, and loved being vice Lower Women’s captain last year. Rowing has been an integral part to my time at Cambridge, and I hope to continue the great work from previous years.
My role is to look after the women’s side of the club, and to assist the Captain of the Boats with the overall running of the club. Although there is uncertainty surrounding this year, there should still be plenty of great rowing to look forward to.
Boathouse Manager & Safety Officer
The boathouse manager/safety officer is reponsible for managing our boathouse, maintaining our boats, coaching and liasing with alumni/steering committee.
Treasurer
Sam Drury spd38@cam.ac.uk
Treasurer – keeps the books, monitors the club accounts, ensures the finances are there such that members can have access to high quality facilities, coaching and equipment.
Secretary
Pippa Prendergast-Coates pcmp2@cam.ac.uk
Hi, I’m Pippa, a second-year Engling, and I’m the CCBC Secretary!
I love rowing because you’re part of a team so everyone works together to be the best you can be as a boat. It’s also really great exercise and you get to see some fantastic sunrises on the water. It’s an escape from the books too.
As Secretary, my job is to keep everyone on top of things. I sort the race entries, committee meetings, the all-important stash orders. I’ll be the one running around organising the Michaelmas BBQ!
Publicity Officer
Rich Turner rjt87@cam.ac.uk
I am a second year PhD student who researches Alzheimer’s Disease. I joined CCBC in my first year, rowing with NM1 in Michaelmas and Captaining M2 in Lent. From the start, rowing, training and socialising with the CCBC community has been an important way for me to take a break from lab work. It also provides a great deal of structure to my week!
As publicity officer I help manage the content of our social media channels (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/christsbc/ and Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/christscollegeboatclub/) and the website. I therefore work closely with all other members of the steering committee to keep our alumni and sponsors up-to-date with our activities.
Alumni, please reach out if you have something to contribute to our newsletter!
Men’s Vice Lower Boats’ Captains
Mikesh Patel mkp41@cam.ac.uk
Hi, my name is Mikesh and I’m a second-year medicine student at Christ’s. I am one of the men’s LBCs in the boat club, so my role is to train the incoming novices this year and give them an enjoyable and informative introduction to this sport. I really enjoy rowing for the high intensity low impact exercise that it provides and for all the social opportunities that being a part of CCBC provides.
Rob Cooper rmc87@cam.ac.uk
Hi, as Vice Lower Boats’ captain it’s my job to recruit and train up this year’s novice rowers. I love rowing’s mix of social and physical aspects and hope to show novice rowers how fun and rewarding rowing can be. This is especially important this year where socialising and being part of groups will be harder than ever.
Women’s Lower Boats’ Captain
Emma Parker ep598@cam.ac.uk
I’m Emma, a 2nd year linguistics student and I’m responsible for training up some of the novices this year. I’m so excited to get back to rowing and get as many new people involved in the boat club as possible. Rowing is an amazing sport to take up at Christ’s, and we’ll be doing as much as we can to make it a lit year!
Women’s Vice Lower Boats’ Captain
Lucy Sargent lms210@cam.ac.uk
Hi, I’m Lucy and I’m in my second year studying Classics. I love rowing as it’s a lovely community to be a part of and a great way to get away from work for a bit, as well as being a super enjoyable sport that you can really feel yourself improving at. I’m one of the vice lower boats captains, meaning along with the other LBCs I help train and organise the novice boats.
Coxing Representative
Tara Tahseen tt396@cam.ac.uk
My name is Tara — I currently cox W1 and this is my second year as coxing rep. My committee role involves liaising between all the coxes and the club about cox-related issues (race safety briefings, equipment, etc) and to recruit and train novice coxes joining the club.
Social Secretary
Kiera Messenger klrm2@cam.ac.uk
Hi, I’m one of the social secretaries and my main role is to organise fun social events for CCBC, including cocktails, boat club dinners and swaps with other colleges. I started rowing as I enjoyed the atmosphere at the freshers’ BBQ and now want to be able to organise events that entice new people and keep the club spirit strong, as that’s one of my favourite things about rowing!
