Christ’s College Boat Club is run by an elected student committee alongside our boat club manager and head coach Kate. We are a friendly bunch and always keen to assist with any queries. Feel free to come and chat with us in the boat house or drop one of us an email – we’re happy to help!
Captain of Boats
Georgia Denham (gd472)
I’m a second year PhD student in Composition, writing music and looking at how techniques become embodied within creative practice. Away from all the joys of making strange and delicious sounds, I am incredibly passionate about rowing, our lovely boat club and the college… so much that I’m carrying on as Captain of Boats for another year! I love cooking, the outdoors and I recently got married at Christ’s.
There will be some changes to the CoB role this year – I’ll mainly be working behind the scenes with Kate, our Head Coach and Boat Woman to spruce up the inner workings and logistics. For the day-to-day, AnaRosa and Mateo will be captaining the ship, and I’m very excited to see CCBC in such safe hands. One slightly sad update is that I’ll be off the water this term for a long awaited hand surgery. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I get to join you, but please introduce yourself if you see me around!
Men’s Captain
Mateo Hoare (mph55)
I’m Mateo, your Men’s captain! I am a second year PhD student working on new approaches to treating neurodegenerative disorders but have been a Christ’s member for five years now and a member of CCBC since my freshers’ week. I’ve not looked backed since then, having been involved at different levels of the club including captaining M2 and rowing in M1 the last few years. My role is to look after the Men’s side of the club, organise the crews, oversee our training and to make sure we progress throughout the year. I also work in close collaboration with my fellow captains Georgia and AnaRosa, and the rest of the committee to ensure we are a welcoming, fun and united club.
Women’s Captain
AnaRosa Capp (ac2425)
Hello! I am AnaRosa Capp, a third year HSPS student and new women’s captain. Having rowed with Christ’s W1 since starting at Cambridge I thought it was finally time to buckle down and do some admin to keep things running on a daily basis. I look forward to continuing the highly social environment of CCBC as well as getting some strong results on the women’s side 💪
Treasurer
Sarah Clarke (sc2292)
Hi, I’m Sarah, a 3rd year Historian and the new Treasurer for CCBC 2023/24. After rowing in W2 in first year and W1 all of last year I decided it was time to take a little more responsibility within the boat club through becoming the new treasurer. I look forward to organising the Boat club finances next year to ensure we continue to be able to enjoy rowing on and off the Cam and have the equipment we need to thrive as a club.
Secretary
Sudina Thapa (st845)
Hiya, I’m Sudina, a third year Natural Scientist. I’ve been rowing since my first year and I rowed with W2 last year. Since I basically already spend all my time talking about rowing, I’ll be organised and keep up to date with the running of the club throughout the year. I’m here for all your race entries and stash orders, alongside other bits of admin. I can’t wait to see you all for another great year of training, racing and bumping.
Publicity Officer
Lizzie Snow (eas207)
Hi, I’m Lizzie, a third year HSPS student and your publicity officer for this year! I’ve rowed in most of the women’s side boat during my 2 years at Christ’s spending last year in W1. With this I’m excited to put my rowing filled camera roll to good use running the Boat Club social media accounts. I’m also excited to keep all our amazing alumni updated on all the goings on at CCBC!
Men’s LBC
John Thompson (jat93)
Hello! I’m John – a second year Land Economy student and one of your friendly Lower Boat Captains (LBCs, for short) for the upcoming year. I noviced in Michaelmas of 2022 and have since gone on to captain the M2 boat in a year that has been nothing short of epic (my personal highlights have been out boat club dinners and the camp in Hungary). Rowing has not only become a passion of mine at Cambridge, but also an experience I’ve been incredibly lucky to share with fellow rowers. My LBCs were super helpful when I first joined last year, so please don’t hesitate to tap me on the shoulder should you wish to row with us in 2023-24, or to find out more about anything else at CCBC 🙂
Men’s LBC
Benjamin Hilton (bbh22)
Hi, my name is Benjamin am I’m an LBC for the upcoming year! I started out rowing last year and came to love the sport, and all the people you interact with around it. As a previous badminton coach, I have experience coaching sports and can’t wait to work with the next generation of Cambridge rowers!
Men’s LBC & Welfare Officer
Luke Wright (lw733)
Hi everyone! I’m Luke, and this year I’ll be a lower boats captain on the men’s side, as well as the welfare officer for the boat club. Last year I was captain of M3 and helped M2 out with a successful spoons campaign! This year I’m looking forward to making sure that you all have a fun and successful time as novices. I’m also here to support anyone in the club who needs it, whether you’ve just started rowing or been with us for much longer 🙂
Women’s LBC
Becky Wake (rw712)
Hi, my name is Becky and I’m Captain of Women’s Lower Boats for this year. I started rowing last year, in my first year, and immediately felt like I’d finally found my sport. I rowed in NW3 and NW1 in Michaelmas, and W2 in Lent and Easter terms, in the latter of which I was Captain. This role gave me the opportunity to learn more about the running of the boat club and how to motivate my crew. I’m extremely excited to see what new rowers the new year brings and can’t wait to help the cohort learn the ins and outs of my absolute favourite hobby (the early mornings get easier I promise)!
Women’s LBC
Fran Lee (fkyl2)
Hi, I’m Fran and I’ll be one of your women’s side LBCs next year! I’m a second year mathmo and started coxing for CCBC in Michaelmas first year, starting off in NM2, moving to M3 in Lent and M2 in Easter. I’ve been hit by the rowing bug and want to do my best to pass on my love for rowing to next year’s freshers!
Coxing Representative
Mariam Alireza (maaa3)
Hi I’m Mariam, a second year HSPSer and your coxing rep for this year. I started coxing last year and quickly fell in love with the club. If you’re looking to become a “rower” without doing any of the pain, consider coxing with us! I’m excited for another year of early morning yelling and can’t wait to welcome you all into our community!
Social Secretary
Eugenie Dodds (ed624)
Hey! I’m Eugenie, I’m going into my second year studying law and am this years social sec. I rowed in W1 last year and really enjoyed getting to know everyone at the club (and meeting people from other clubs!) As social sec, I help organise our boat club dinners and swaps with other boat clubs, so if there is a particular college you have your eye on, let me know…!
Webmaster
Cian Dunne (cd804)
Hi I’m Cian, a second year studying maths and I will be the CCBC Webmaster this year. I started rowing in Michaelmas last year and went on to join M3 during Lent. This year I will be looking after the boat club website.
